hours...
hours..., a pensive, end-of-the-millenium album by David Bowie, is quite an interesting one. The album opens with "Thursday's Child", a ballad that could've been right out of the 80's. It is followed by "Something in the Air", which sounds like U2's No Line on the Horizon with vocals from Achtung Baby. Next up is "Survive" which I don't like that much, but still has an unnerving resemblance to Us-era Peter Gabriel. The next song is "If I'm Dreaming My Life", which works, just not for Bowie. On "Seven", the next track, there's great music, but the lyrics and melody just aren't good. The following song, "What's Really Happening", sounds like a brit singing 90's-era Kiss, and "The Pretty Thing Are Going To Hell" sounds like the Foo Fighters! And then for our final three tracks we have a hard rocker ("New Angels of Promise"), a synth instrumental ("Brilliant Adventure") and a reggae-synth number ("The Dreamers"). This album has a few good songs, but none others are even remotely close to being as good as Bowie's old stuff.
